Nature Photo of the Day #59: Winter Lake Michigan

Visited the Big Lake today called "Lake Michigan"!! It is still very much frozen and the ice formations are very jagged and pointed. There are mountains of ice and snow from the layering of waves.  The different hues of whitish blue is pretty. Just a beautiful lake even in the winter!

This beautiful deer jumped out in front of me on my walk today. Came from the right, jumped over the bank, and then went prancing onto the other side. His herd was on the other side waiting on their trail. Great to see them as I see their tracks everyday!

I think this log is so interesting. The way the ends jet out. The texture of the log is interesting. Fun shade of green on it in spots. Even though it is no longer a live tree, it is still serving a purpose on the ground.

Trails are a great way to get out and walk in nature. Today I had a great walk on this trail. The sun was adding warmth to the walk. The blue sky was beautiful. The snow crunched underneath my boots, leaving imprints of my own path. The birds were out chirping and flying from one side to another. Lots to explore further down the trail as you never know what beauty is ahead!

I have been watching this ice chunk form over the winter! It has been there on the river for awhile and growing into a nice sphere! Had to take a photo of it as it seems to be a natures ice sculpture art.

This chickadee was busy today by flying to branch to branch. Also, chirping to his friends! He was poking at the branch by his feet. I caught him in the photo as he was about to strike the wood. His feathers are all puffed out to keep him warm.  Adorable.

Spotted this sleepy seagull along the shores of a river. He found a perfect spot to rest on ice. So, peaceful looking with the rushing water going past him. He was having a restful Sunday.

This Tufted Titmouse was full of energy today. Flying from tree to tree. He was chirping to his friends. He sure was a busy body and happy today.

He was so loud amongst the other birds. Making his presence known. He was an active Blue Jay on this cold winter day. He flew from tree to tree. Beautiful display of blue in the winter time.

This morning was a great surprise!! Snow had covered all the plants and trees outside over the night. Glad I went out when I did for my nature walk. The wind was picking up! The snow art was blowing off the trees and plants as I was out and about.

I love this side view of this Queen Anne's Lace. I think it is at this time of year I am really thirsty to see flowers again. The spires look like small individual flowers right now without the blossoms.

Such beauty watching a predator bird soaring in the sky!! Got him with my camera! It is fitting that there is a jet stream above him as he was soaring fast. Making the shot interesting! Such beauty!

The warmth glow of the sunshine. The trees are basking in the sun. The temps are still of the winter chill. But, the sun is a warm welcome to the forest.

I found this stump to be of fun character!! Seemingly dead but life coming out of it. The crazy mess of stems at the top is chaotic and funny. Shows that nature can be humorous too.

I loved seeing these vines going up the trunk of the tree. They seemed so straight in their growth journey upward. The vines need that tree for survival but wonder how the tree feels about that relationship.

This bark was just hanging on a branch of a tree. Fallen from above and just dangling. I love the pattern inside the bark. There seems to be an untold story of the pattern. I think that it was a cool find.

These berries were easy to see on the trail walk. The red spoke out against the white landscape. Some still in clusters on the stems and some landed on the ground of snow.

Loved spotting this tree on my journeys today! Such character to the tree with the bent branches. Love how the snow landed on the pine needles. They formed into snow balls leaving an ornament effect to the trees decoration.

Everything seemed still and peaceful along the winter river walk with the swans in the back drop. Then I scared up these ducks below the river bank. Fun to see the ducks fly off and creating a chain reaction of alert with the swans to move on.
